Gestational Diabetes in Pregnancy is also known as pregnancy diabetes. The condition occurs when a woman's body is not able to produce enough insulin to help her keep her blood sugar levels balanced. As a result, she can develop various complications which could include problems with her vision, stroke, and even an ectopic pregnancy. This complication occurs when the fetus has difficulty becoming born due to the excessive glucose in the mother's blood. While this is the most common complication of Gestational Diabetes in Pregnancy, there are other risks that could develop which include preeclampsia, which is an extremely dangerous situation where the baby can be harmed during labor and delivery.

It is very important for women who have been diagnosed with gestational diabetes mellitus to screen themselves regularly for symptoms. It is also recommended that they undergo regular visits to their healthcare providers so that their doctors can monitor their condition and keep them in good health. If you feel that you may be at risk for developing gestational diabetes mellitus, then it is highly recommended that you learn about the different ways by which you can avoid it. Some of these risk factors include obesity, lack of physical activity, excessive alcohol consumption, cigarette smoking, and insufficient intake of healthy foods. These are the most common causes of obesity and poor physical activity.

Being overweight increases a woman's chances of developing gestational diabetes mellitus because of the fact that it affects the proper functioning of the insulin system. As a result, the cells in the liver no longer respond to the insulin signals as they should. In addition to being overweight, being obese can also result from having a history of smoking, drinking alcohol, and eating large amounts of unhealthy foods. It is therefore recommended that women avoid all of these factors if they are planning on getting pregnant. Apart from avoiding all of the aforementioned factors, women are advised to get exercise and to maintain a healthy weight through diet and regular exercise.

Women who have gestational diabetes are advised to eat healthy foods such as fresh vegetables, lean meats, and low-fat dairy products. These foods help lower blood sugar levels and therefore reduce the chance of developing the condition during pregnancy. Apart from these healthy food options, a pregnant woman is also advised to get an adequate amount of rest every day. A well-regulated work schedule, low-stress levels, balanced diet, and healthy lifestyle will greatly help in reducing the risk of having an extra-large belly after giving birth.

Excessive intake of alcohol and caffeine has been cited as one of the risk factors for having gestational diabetes mellitus. Women who often consume alcoholic beverages on a regular basis are at a greater risk of having this condition during pregnancy. Excessive intake of caffeine can also cause the body to increase the level of insulin in the bloodstream. In order to avoid this condition, it is advisable for pregnant women to limit their consumption of alcohol, caffeine, and sugar.

Gestational diabetes mellitus is also associated with pregnancy type 2. This condition occurs when the mother has hyperinsulinism that interferes with the normal blood sugar levels that the mother should have. Due to the interference of insulin, the fetus receives an insufficient amount of energy. It results in inadequate growth, development, and cellular development. If left untreated, this condition could cause defects in the baby like reduced growth and function.
